Set neck removal!? (only way is to tear apart the body?)

Sign in to disble this ad
i heard, through this forum i believe, that the only way to rid myself of the body of this bass. is by cutting it out??
is there a "safer'' route to travel so that i could preserve the body to use for a different project? seeing as both halves are quite important

thanks

If it is set neck, then the joint is glued. Bring it to a luthier, they should be able to separate it in a similar manner to how they remove fretboards, using heat.

If it's neckthrough, however, then the only way is to cut the neck or the body.

Either way, I think it's more trouble than it's worth, and you should just sell or trade it. But that's just me.

With a set-neck, someone can use steam to seperate the joint

I'd be inclined to peddle it and find a bass that fit a little better. For a quality job of pulling the neck, building a new body, and putting it all back together, you could buy or build one from scratch with money left over.
