Setting action on a new bass

Sign in to disble this ad
I got a new bass (Fender J) and replaced the stock strings w/ some D'Addario ones I had lying around.

Long story short, I think the action may be too low now, as when I hit an open string w/ any aggression I get a little buzzing on the vibration.

is this something I can adjust by setting my action on my bridge? and if so, are there any guides you could point me to so i do it correctly and don't muck up the intonation, etc.? I'm assuming I just raise it a little bit at a time for each string hitting open and then at the 12 fret to make sure there's no buzz.

Try this site. I have always had someone else (tech) do a setup on my basses until i tried it myself last week (got tired of dishing out money to do it) by following this web sites directions. I can tell you honestly that i wound up doing a great job (if i do say so myself) and i'm going to do all my bases myself from now on. I was able to get the action really low and no buzzing on any fret. This was a first for me, i was a little nervous tweeking the truss rod but all worked out well. Give it a try, you will learn to get the bass setup like YOU want it and it was easy to do.

If you are going to learn to do your own setups ( ) - Using a Stewart - MacDonald string action gauge will get you p e r f e c t results.

Thought that's what "setup & repair" was? I'm confused?
