Wanna tune my 6-String E-A-D-G-E-B. How much work is involved? Could you explain the process for me and possibly estimated costs?

To get started, all you need to do is get a set of strings and install them and tune them EADGEB. But this is NOT such a simple thing as you think! To just try this tuning since all these strings are smaller diameter than original strings you won't need to get a new nut or file the bridge to just try them. Notice that the 4 lowest strings are just a standard 4 string set. You'll need to buy one of those. But you will ALSO have to buy the two higher strings in the same make and model! And even worse, you'll have to figure out what diameter each string must be given the note it's playing. You have to use the 4 string set as a guide.

I'm guessing that you really have a typo and want to tune it EADGBE the same as a guitar. People who want to apply their guitar scales and chord knowledge to bass often tune this way. If this is what you really mean, then just get and install a 7 string set and throw the B string in your case (just in in case you change your mind). Note that using guitar tuning for a bass means that you CANNOT move patterns and scales around the neck the way you can with a bass tuned entirely in 4ths.

Then after you install the strings you'll need a complete setup adjustment of intonation, truss rod, relief and the rest due to the different tension on the neck. If you set it up yourself, cost is just the price of a 7 string set of strings. (Assuming we are talking guitar tuning here).

If you want the change permanent, then you'll need to get a new nut cut to fit the strings.

Thanks, you were right, I did mean EADGBE. What would the tuning be for 4th's?

A common 7 string bass tuning is BEADGCF. Yours would be EADGCF and if you want guitar tuning dropping C to B and F to E would not require that you get special gauge strings. An "ordinary" 7 string set will work just fine. (but they may be just a bit hard to find)
