Setup in Atlanta

I live about thirty minutes north of Atlanta. Hopefully, I'll be getting a new bass soon. As they don't always come off the rack with a perfect setup, where should I take it? Would a place like Guitar Center or Ken Stanton Music have someone that would do a good job? Or does anyone know a local luthier or someone who get it just right? I know I don't wanna take on trying to do it myself yet, so I'm trying to find someone who will do the job well and just don't know where to go. Thanks for your help.

Arrow Set-Up

Follow the instructions in your manual and do it yourself. Only you know how you want your bass to feel. It's not hard to do, just take your time.

Realistically, is it really pretty easy for someone who's never done it before? I've read plenty about it (only doing quarter-turn adjustments at a time on the truss rod, etc.) but have never actually given it a shot. I made the mistake of never having the setup on my current bass adjusted (and it needs it), so I guess I'm just unsure of exactly how it should be. But, hey, if I'm getting a new bass soon, I guess that means the one I have now would make for the perfect candidate to learn on.

This guys is based in Athens but also works in the Atl. area (don't know exactly where). I have used him to de-fret a bass for me and will likely have him occasionally do maintenance type work.

Guitar Repair & set–up by 18 yr. pro guitar tech. Proceeds help benefit Nuçi’s Space. Contact Jeff, (404) 643-9772 or www.AthensGuitar.com for details.

(mention michael key referred you, don't know for sure if it will get you a better rate, but it may help a bit)

Try Southeast Guitar Repair next door to GC in Lawrenceville. They are good people who know thier s#*t. Reasonably priced too. Alot easier to deal with than those pirates next door.

So to revive an old thread... I've been going to Southeast Guitar repair and have been very happy with them... except that it's in Gwinnett county and I live in Cherokee. Anyone have any closer recommendation? Something around Cobb or Cherokee counties? Any experience (good or bad?) with the guys at Ken Stanton Music in Marietta, maybe? Thanks.

Jeez man, if you're in the Marietta area I can set you up for free.

Send me a PM, but beware . . . you may get what you pay for
