I was getting ready to do a major setup of one of my primary basses yesterday and I realized that I had never really given the question of string height (action) and string-to-pickup distance any really logical analysis -- I just did what seemed to work.
I hate not having a good understanding of the physical aspects of my work, blundering around in hippy subjectivity.
I've never really seen any good breakdown of this anywhere that go into the engineering considerations of setup, which are substantial with the relationship of pickup and string. Has anybody seen any good pages about this stuff?
