can you elaborate on "setup"? are you talking about your bass' action, your amp eq, or what?

what should I make my setup be if I wannt to play metal and jazz

I have a Fender Jazz bass and a 180 watt amp

what is the idile setup for those playing those two styles and I don't use picks I hate them I feels wrong not comfortable I can make it sound alot heavier with slaping the bass

Still not getting it...

You mean what GEAR to have (like effects or whatnot)? Or you mean how to set up your action, neck relief, etc?

In any event, metal and jazz strike me as at somewhat crossed purposes; that is, a typical rig/setup for one isn't often going to be really appropriate for the other.

I bet what you're going to wind up with is a really "medium" instrument setup (adjustments) that can go either way by being played differently.

For hardware, perhaps a chorus, a distortion, and a compressor would start you on your way. There's lots more on those in the "Effects" forum...
