I brought my bass in to the biggest music store in canada (long & mqcuade) they said it would be 1-2 weeks and they would call me when its done. I thought two weeks, ha! Anyways i really needed a setup, my action was to high cause i screwed with it. 2 weeks later (today), it says it was just repaired to day on the receipt..I thought that was stupid..anyways I go home all happy because its been fixed and I have it again wrong. I played and all i heard was clack click and buzz buzz. the action was wayyyyyy to low. I have a light touch and it still clicks...im pissed. What should I do? I was thinking going back to the store and asking them for my money back. Or get them to do it right infront of me till i like it. Or just go yell at them for making me wait two weeks for this.. what would you guys do? what should i do?

I'd suggest learning how to do your own setup.

no offense, but I think everyone should learn how to setup their own instruments just because everyone has a different playing style and preferred setup. A setup is really a matter of preference.

i just setup the action on a buddy's bass, just adjust the saddle by quarter turns with your allen rench, every quarter turn play the string open and play the frets till the action fits your style.

Actually, that's probably how he screwed it up to start with. How in the world can you know that the saddles are out of adjustment on a bass that you've never even seen???

The relief should be the first step in the adjustment sequence because it can be checked without turning anything.

If the relief is OK, then, and only then, move to the saddle adjustments, if needed.

Why didn't you play it in the store before you took it home? Next time take it to the Twelfth Fret on Danforth at Woodbine.

Unfortunately that is how we learn. It will be difficult at first but you can do it!!! And it will be worth it in the long run. Read about it on the web and talk to people.......

As long as you don't over adjust/force the trussrod to its breaking point in one direction or another (you'll know as you approach this point) most everything else is reversable.

And on the store.....any reputable place should readjust it for you if you aren't satisfied.

Yep, no reason you can't do your own set-ups. There's a tutorial posted somewhere on TB which may be of help. I would suggest you leave nut and fret work to the pros, though.
