Angry Setup Questions-Washburn

Sign in to disble this ad
Recently, I tuned my Washburn Force-4 from drop-A back up to standard-E. Needless to say, now the action is AWFUL.

I'm unsure whether to adjust the bridge or truss rod.
I'm also unsure how to adjust either of the two.

I've never done it myself, but I'd love to know how.

Any help?

The link contains some excellent setup guides on how to find what you seek.

Assuming you mean you have a 4 string that you used to tune to low A (DGC) and then increased the tension by tuning back to standard tuning, you most probably brought the neck into an upbow.

Tune the bass, then (assuming you're a righty) on the E string fret where the neck meets the body with your right pinky and the first fret with any finger on your left hand. The string is now a straightedge under which relief of the neck can be measured. At the halfway point between where you are fretting it, you can now see how much action there is (space between the bottom of the string and that fret).

It's a personal preference measurement, but in gen'l most folks lean towards just a bit of relief. I know the Fender guide gives a few gen'l guidelines.

Once you've measured, let us know what you find and we'll try to guide you further...
