setups and repairs are very therapeutic

Hey,

I just spent the last hour fixing some control cavity wiring and intonation issues on my jazz bass. I've a lot on my mind at the moment as I found out a week ago I'll soon be out of a job (I don't have a family to support or a mortgage and i am trying to be positive but it's been quite a blow to my morale).

I found the whole process of doing the repairs and my own setup very therapeutic The wiring kept going in my bass and I never had the time to set aside to fix it so I decided to make the time this evening.

Clearing out the old solder, paring down the wires, re-soldering etc and then fixing the intonation really cleared my head.

And the cherry on the sundae was connecting up to my amp and jamming away on that bass for the first time in months!

True for me too, working on basses or amps lets me focus and forget about everything else. I also like working on bicycles, and cars a bit too. Bicycle wheel building is about the most therapeutic of my hobbies, something about the circle and the tension of the spokes...

this week I got my new SIT silencers in from juststrings, went to the basement, had a beer and a cigarette and just set up my bass and hid from the world. it's a lot cheaper than therapy.
