shoveful screw

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a problem with the bridge cover's screw. It's showeful, i turn and turn and turn and it never stops. And of course it's not so steady in his right place for long time. Both of them. Will a woodfiller restore the right grip? If i will use a woodfiller and after i screw down the screw (sorry for my english), will it works?

ps: i don't want to use longer screws, it's an old bass and i would like to keep it with his original screws...
Thansk,
Franco.

If I understand correctly, it seems like the screws have stripped and no longer hold in the wood. If that's right, then the best fix is to stuff the worn out screw holes with toothpicks and some glue, then replace the screws. They'll cut into the toothpicks and give you a firm grip that won't fail. I've used this method many times. Just toothpicks and carpenter's glue.

Don't use wood filler. It doesn't hold screws as well.

Watanabe71, there is no need to apologise for your english. It's very good. Even better, you just invented a wonderful new word !

I think we should all start using it. From now on, whenever a screw has lost its grip, it has gone Shoveful.

I like that word. I have a couple of shoveful holes in my basses. Toothpicks unshovefuled them right up.
