Side-to-side string adjustment - Hipshot Triple Lock Down

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a custom 8-string bass with Hipshot triple lock down single-string bridges. I love it, but I'm starting to dislike the inconsistent between-string spacing that the tapered strings are providing. The difference in spacing between the C and F string vs the F# and B string right over the bridge pickup is about 3.5mm - quite noticeable.

Is there any way, beyond custom saddle pieces, to adjust the side-to-side spacing on these bridges? If not, can anyone recommend a company that does small, one-off batches of precision metal work like this?

Is your center-to-center spacing consistent? If so, that's pretty much what you can expect from this model unless you re-mount the entire assembly. You could flip the saddle insert upside down and re-slot but the lateral placement of the height adjustment screws wouldn't buy much territory. Call Jason and the crew at Hipshot....as always, there's a good chance I'm overlooking an obvious solution.

You know, if Hipshot put the action adjustment on the sliding portion, then you could get rid of the need for the set screws on the saddle insert and allow for about 3-4mm of side-to-side adjustment.

I wonder if they do that at all.

EDIT: Here's what I was thinking, in case I wasn't clear. Notice how the set screws have moved to the saddle base?
