Simple shim solution for fretless Jazz bass - string height, relief, truss rod

To start, I added the extra words in the title to help people search. I had trouble finding a good thread when I did my search.

I just got a 2007 fretless Jazz MIM neck to go on my 2004 MIM Jazz bass. set-up was not getting the low action I wanted, and turning the truss rod was not helping much, so I decided to try shimming with a few cut up pieces of index card paper. Seems to be working fine.

follow up. Realized that the shim was necessary because the Gotoh bridge sits higher on the bass than the stock bridge. Probably would not have needed the shim if I had stuck with the stock bridge...

I've heard of people using the Gotoh bridge with Fender saddles. I believe it's the saddle diameter that makes the string sit higher.
