Slight Problem...

Sign in to disble this ad
So, today I wanted to put some copper shielding tape in my bass.

But I've run into a bit of an issue:

SX has struck again in all their "custom handmade" glory.

I'm not sure what to do about it.

I can't exactly see what the problem is. Is that a gouge in the control cavity? I do see what appears to be a hole where the bit that drilled out the bridge ground lead hit the bottom of the cavity.
I'd fill it with body filler, wood putty, epoxy, or superglue (the first two are sandable) and cover it over with your shielding tape.

Well, I ripped off the flap of wood sticking out.

My mom tells me that her dad has a dremel, so maybe we can use that to smooth that little spot out.

I wouldn't worry about it, just compress the shielding into it when you afix it?

I just didn't want it to tear, and that looked like a spot where that would happen.

Why would it tear? You're overfussing this.

+1

It's not a moving part.

Yeah! Down with SX and their basses that......people can afford!

Unless you're planning on working inside the control cavity everyday, don't worry about it.

Wouldn't your mom's dad be your "grandfather"?

Yeah dude, that gouge can't be more than 1/4" in depth or you'd have a hole in the back of your bass.
I've worked with worse, just tape over it and fagetabadit!

If it's not visible, it doesn't matter. Just cover it with the shielding and ignore it. You're fussing over nothing.

Well, yes, but I often like to specify between my mom's side and my dad's side.

Back on topic, if this really isn't going to be a problem, then I guess I just won't worry about it. I'll put the foil in tonight, and if I run into any issues I'll just post them here.

Alright, I did the shielding:

Any advice for shielding the tunnel connecting the pickup route and the control route?

Maybe wrap the pickup leads with the copper foil before you run them through the hole??? Don't know if the hole is wide enough.

Through my V-AMP, yes. Not through my combo amp.

But, I don't want ANY noise, anywhere.
