This does happen when you have a new neck that hasn't been adjusted before. Sometimes the noise is just the glue cracking off the truss rod, in theory there shouldnt be any glue on there btu that isnt always how things happen . But in this case, with the nut being stuck, i would definately take it to a pro.

My Grendel's truss rod

Wrote to Michael Tobias and his comment was as someone else that had mentioned in the thread and to see if the bronze washer is still between the nut and the block. Also while it is removed add some grease to the nut. He also recommended to see a local luthier to do this.

Everyone call this a nut. Never seen a nut that looks like an allen screw. Does this come out or is it part of the truss rod? since I have never actually seen the truss rod, it still is this mysterious part inside of the neck. I would love to see a pic of a truss rod and the nut and how it all goes together.

It is a nut that looks like a bolt. . The Stewart Mcdonald site has pix of truss rods. Yours is a compression type rod.
