So I've had a Pbass copy sitting in my practice area for a couple months now. The bass was given to me as a graduation gift with all 4 members of a bands signatures on it. I had been looking around for a display case for a little while when it hit me that #1. a display case was going to be pretty pricey #2. I had nowhere to put a full bass on display and #3. all the signatures were on the pickguard.
So this morning I tested out the bass, the electronics, knobs, jacks, and tuners work very well surprisingly enough... but there is a problem with the pickup volume being too low. So I removed the pickguard (which I'm going to frame with the certificate of authenticity which will only cost $10 or so) and removed the electronics from the guard.
Here's my current plan:
Step 1: I'm going to remove the neck and bridge and sand down the body to the bare wood
Step 2: I'm going to refinish the bass in metallic green with my band logo in purple (i"m debating whether or not to remove the tuners and paint the headstock so it will match).
Step 3: I ordered a pickguard from guitar fetish, and will either spray it purple, green, chrome, or a combination of all 3.
Step 4: Replace the stock pickup with DiMarzio DP127 Split P in black. install neck and hardware again (install strap buttons with washer and strap)
Step 5: Rock!
I'll be posting pix as I go and letting everyone know how my first foray into modding basses goes.
