So I got this really nice '62 AV RI neck with no tuners....

Sign in to disble this ad
What tuners will fit this neck? I mean besides the standard reverse wind '57/'62 AV RI tuners...
I would love to find a lightweight alternatvie to the factory tuners but I do not really want to drill any new holes.
I am probably asking too much but is there a tuning machine that will fit this bill?
I do not care if it is reverse or standard wind.
Thanks!

Hmm.. IIRC, those holes fits 11/16" bushings... so... im thinking about the Hipshot ultralites... the HB6C...

The Hipshot HB3 are slightly lighter. I replaced the Vintage tuners on my CS64 w/ the Hipshot due to the stock vintage tuners being so stiff. Seems like every bass, or neck I get w/ Fender Vintage Reverse tuners, there's at least one stiff tuner in the set.
Although, I do love the simple look of the Fender tuners.

Gotoh makes a lightweight reverse vintage tuner that has the same hole spacing but, can be hard to find.

Like flewis mentioned.

I've got these on two of my basses, and they are so much smoother and lighter than the std. Fenders. You can also dial in how firm/loose you want them to turn, but at $175/pair, they're definitely a commitment.

I got my HB3's today...

They are as nice as the HB1's that I traded but.....

The bushes seem too small for the holes in the '62 AV RI neck. They should press in with a little resistance right? These are so loose they do not even touch the sides (ID) of the hole. The ID of the bushes matches the tuning machine fine. Other than that, they line up with the existing screw holes on the back of the head just fine.

Thoughts?

I had the same thing happen when installing my new Gotoh Res-O-Lites.
Supplied bushings were way too small in diameter.
I think AllParts or Fender replacement bushings will work.
Have some AllParts bushings coming in mail; will measure them and post dims.

Thanks! I sent a note to Hipshot as well. My experience with their customer service has been stellar in the past. I do like those guys.

Got a note this AM that the bushings are "in the mail."
Actually got a note Sunday night that they'd be sent Monday.
Hipshot really is "all that".
