So, I Think I Installed My Hipshot D-Tuner Improperly

Yeah. So I finally found a Hipshot for my Fender Jazz MIA. I installed it (despite the lack of instructions) and it works perfectly. However, the E-string string post seems to be shorter. So either this is supposed to happen, or a) I should get rid of the big nylon washer, b) I accidentally used the old string post rather than the provided one, or c) something else.

Any suggestions?

IMO and IME, the string post on a Hipshot won't be an exact match with the rest of the tuners on the headstock. The Hipshot D-Tuners are more "one size fits most" as opposed to "one size fits all". The mechanism that makes the device work makes the tuning post shorter, as well.

The nylon washer ensures smooth operation, so keep it.

I believe the post is shorter because they add a plate for the mechanism and on mine the keys themself don't line up as well.

The Hipshot D-tuners are simply a regular tuning mechanism (Gotoh, Hipshot, whatever) mounted on a swivel plate. Because of this, the post will be shorter on top of the headstock. It's normal.

As long as it works well, fuggedabboudit.
