So I'm thinking of modding my P-bass

...but I don't know where to start!

I baught a used Highway One P-bass a few months ago as a 2nd bass/back up bass. I find myself using it more and more, I like the tone I can get from it.

After a few shows I am finding that its not really tight in the lows and mids, so this is why I am considering modding it. Any recommendations on where to begin? I heard that swapping out the bridge with a bad-ass bridge makes a big difference. What else?

The band I am in plays mostly Rock/Alternative. Think Foo Fighters/Flyleaf/Tool.

As far as I'm concerned, a Badass makes no difference in tone. If you want to tighten it up, the most common thing for tightening up Precisions is to add a Jazz bass pickup by the bridge. Not a job for beginners, but if you can use a router and a soldering iron, it's not too hard. A luthier can do it for around $100. However, any modifications will have a negative effect on future resale value, so bear that in mind before you do it.

The BadAss did exactly what you want for my 77 Pbass. Focused the bottom end.

Some heavier gauge low strings would keep the low end nice and firm wouldn't it?

Does the Highway 1 stuff have the S-1 switch? If not, check it out. Cheap and easy mod!
