socket (?) question

Sign in to disble this ad
on my bass (rogue 5 string), the socket where the B string sits at the top of the fretboard has broken off. About half of the indentation is left, so the string will still sit there, but any energetic playing and it pops out, affecting the sound of the string. What should I do to fix this?

how much should this new nut cost? and is this something that can happen with normal playing and thus would be covered by warranty (its barely 24 hours old)

If the bass is covered by warranty a nut replacement should be covered. You could do it yourself, but since you don't have experience with it, it's probably not a good idea. The nuts are inexpensive enough, but slotting them properly for your bass and strings requires careful work. Take it back to where you got it and show them what happened. If the store is any good they'll fix it for you.
