some setup help please....

hey all,

heres my ordeal, i have a Fender MIM standard jazz V bass. i love the sound of it to death but i hate the action. i cant seem to get it right. i like the action to have very little buzz on the higher frets. the only problem is when i set the action to where there is little buzz from about the 12th fret and up it makes the frets buzz by the 7th and 9th fret. i have found websites about the trus rod and how it should be. when i look down the fretboard it is completely flat, there is no concave or convexing to be seen. i just dont like having my action so high because it makes it hard to play. so could someone help me to get the action the way i want it? would it help to take it to a tech to set it up for me?

thanks in advance,

-Rory

Try a larger gauge string.

Your best bet would be to take it to a tech if you're not entirely sure about what the problem might be.

If it's setup well and you're not getting any buzzing past the 12th fret and only the 7th & 9th are buzzing it sounds like the 8th and 10th frets are probably high. In that case, definately take it to a tech to have him/her make sure that is the issue and correct it, either by further adjustment or a fret leveling.
