Question sorting out intonation on fretless bass

Sign in to disble this ad
hey guys, I've recently put some new strings on my fretless bass, however the intonation on the bass is slightly off, how can i sort this?

if it was on my fretted bass i would simply adjust the bridge until the open string and 12th fret are playing the exact same note (with an octave difference between them)

sorry if that makes no sense, am not good with words.

How about - hit the harmonic at the 12th fret, then depress the string at exactly that point, and if they're the same, bingo!
You can also check that the harmonics at the 5th and 19th frets are the same. You have to use the harmonics as reference points, and I always had mine spot-on, but most non-ocd people don't worry too much - if it's reasonably ok then you adjust without thinking about it.

A fretless bass needs to be intonated?

Mick Karn says he's never had his bass set up so use your ears.
