Source for #3 wood screws?

Sign in to disble this ad
I finally got some new switches for that black Peavey T-40 I got earlier this year. When I was trying to remove the pickup rings, I found the screws were very rusted, and several were stripped. I managed to get them out, but now I can't find a replacement.

Took a couple to Lowes, and according to the gauge they had, it's a #3 wood screw. They had 2 & 4, but not 3.

Anyone know of a good, simple source for these? I need 8, but I might get another 8, to replace the screws in my ash T-40.

I've googled it, and most of the places have minimum orders of $10.

Any ideas?

ACE Hardware is probably your best bet...they carry a much wider selection then Lowe's or Home Depot.

But don't spend $20 worth of time trying to save $5 on a minimum order of screws.

Many small music stores have a box of various screws of commonly used styles and sizes; I visit one locally every time I need oddball parts and they always have what I need. Sure, you might pay a quarter for a screw, but isn't your time worth something?

#4 is only about 13 thousandth's of an inch wider than #3 (#3 = 0.0990, #4 = 0.1120): I bet they would work fine.

Post a WTB thread. I betcha I have two or three black pickup ring mounting screws floating around in my junk drawer. I, as many TBers do, refuse to throw anything away. I snag pieces / parts all the time and mail to those in need.

BTW, where are you in eastern NC?

Well, I'm in business now.

I mentioned my search to a pal of mine at work. We happen to work at a newspaper, and my pal is the production manager. Today he walked in and threw a tiny box on my desk and said "Merry Christmas." Inside was a box of 100 #3 screws, 5/8" in length!

Apparently we do a lot of business with a nut & bolt supplier that helps keep our presses running. We get supplies from them all the time. My friend asked if they had any, and they threw in the box for free in the latest order.

It's all about having friends in the right places!

Now, of course, I have 84 extra screws. Hopefully, if anyone searches for T-40 & screws, they'll find this post. I'll send 'em out for free. Gotta pay it forward!
