Source for '83 Fender Std P Bridge Saddles

Sign in to disble this ad
I just picked up an '83 Std P. Some of the saddle heidth screws (hex) are frozen, some are stripped so I can't setup the bass until I get replacements. I've looked at StewMac, Fender and other sites for these parts and found nothing. I'd prefer to replace just the saddles - to keep as much of the original bridge as possible.

Any suggestions?

I would put some DW-40 on these saddles and let it sit for a day or two...then it should come apart fairly easily.... ALso at auto store you can get a spray can of "break-free" like liquid wrench...ect.. Make sure to use a rag to protect the finish..
The little screws can be re-used after cleaner up and wire-wheeled...If they are stripped then go online to McMaster-Carr and look for repelacement adjuster screws...you might get the allan key ones..

Thanks Chris. Tried WD-40. No luck for some screws, plus again, others are stripped out - these I can't think of how to remove from the saddle, hence my request for both saddles and screws. Some Websites have the screws. I couldn't find one that sold individual saddles. Screw it, in LA there are 3 guys/stores I can take it to who should have what I need. Still, I'm a do-it-yourselfer until I hit a decent size bump - at which point I'll gladly pay to get it done.

I appeciate your response man.

I am wondering what type of height adjusting screws you have..
Are they allen heads or are they slotted heads for regular screw-driver??? I will be in L.A., Santa Monica, this weekend.. I can meet you then take it and fix it.. All I ask in return is you buy a few beers

Best Regards
Chris

Chris,
Screws are allen heads. I know a great tech in Studio City, Norik Renson. He's been doing guitars in LA for 25 years. I live over the hill from him in Hllywd. He's got the parts and will take care of me. I appreciate the offer though. I'd take it to Truetone buy they only take appointments.

I had an 83 strat where the bridge pieces were completely borked due to extreme amounts of playtime and cheap pot metal parts...unfortunately the pieces are J & L shaped and I couldn't find any replacements...I ended ups selling the guitar since the crap metal was in contact with the strings and were affecting the tone, and there was no one making replacement saddles.

What a pleasant experience!

I'd either sell or Frankenstein this P Bass, but, it was owned by a famous player, it's chock full 'o Mojo and I just want her back in good playing condition. Borked??? Nice word.
