Spector bridge and intonation

I have a Euro Spector. Because the bridge doesn't have an intonation adjustment screws, it seems that I have to move each saddle by hand. Am I correct?

Yes. I usually just tap them with a plastic dowel.

The new bridges have screws btw.

The newer bridge has intonation screws. But it's $200. I'll pass.

Yeah the old styles are kind of a PITA for sure. But once you do it, I haven't really had to adjust them at all. Unless you change tunings or string gauges, etc..

It's probably the one thing I detest most about my Spector Legend. Anybody know if Hipshot A-styles will fit in the bridge route?

Are there any cheaper direct replacement bridges? I like to experiment with different strings and gauges until I find the right string set for a particular bass. I don't see how I can make minute intonation adjustments by moving each saddle with my fingers.

Just got a Spector myself, and I agree the intonation process is a bit tedious considering the saddles aren't attached to the bridge. You have to move them by tapping on them. I also dislike how the screws that support the underside of the saddle are diagonally placed. They tend to want to lean at awkward angles.

Don't forget that there's a screw in the side of the bridge that once tightened holds the saddles in place.

I've checks specs of all major replacement bridges and none of them will fit Spector basses.

This is true. Ned Steinberger used this same design on his early basses and they were a pain. I recall spending a long time getting the set up perfect only to watch the saddles shift when I tightened that side screw. I know Steinberger later redesigned that bridge with intonation screws etc. It is a great design once you get it set, though.
