Spector Neck Issues

Sign in to disble this ad
I just bought a used Spector Legend and after bringing it home, I set to work on straightening out the neck, which I had noticed had quite a bit of relief to it. To begin with, I removed the strings to allow the neck to settle back into a straight position. This was about 5 hours ago. The neck still has a large amount of relief. Is this normal or should I be worried that I bought a bass with a bum neck?

I thought I mentioned it in the OP but I guess not, the truss is maxed out.

Thats not good.

Couple of options:

First off, try backing off on the truss rod. Then you gently bend the neck over your leg bracing it with your foot (back bow) and tighten it again. Sometimes this helps.

You can also try backing off the truss rod nut and take it right off. You then find a couple of washers the same diameter as the nut and put them on the trussrod. Then put the bullet back on and re tighten using the above technique. This will give you some more adjustment range. I did this with my G&L and it did the trick when it was maxed.

If these don't work you may want to consult a good tech.

When you remove the bullet check (with a flashlight) if the threads on the truss rod are stripped.

If they are you are looking at a trip to a good luthier.
