Spector NS-2 Trus Rod Question

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a early 1980s Spector NS-2 that the trus rod is maxed out on...I know there is a similar thread on here but know that the way the truss is set up on the early NS-2s is somewhat unique and prone to problems...anyway...I have had the bass for about ten years, and the neck has not moved much if at all..however, the last few months my action has gotten gradually higher ( not bad still) but I use .95-.40 strings and I hate a high action...no new enviornment has been introduced to the bass either..it lives in it case in the same house, so my question is...what is my soulution to this? Do I need to send out for a professional repair, new truss, neck work or is there some simple remedy that I can try at home... I love this bass and it will go with me to my grave so whatever I do I want it done right...thanks in advance for any wisdom....

I would suggest contacting PJ Rubal @ Stuart Spector Designs. He may be able to suggest how to move forward with your truss issue.

If you are the diy type, you could pick up a spacer from the hardware store that will fit on the truss between the wood and the adjusting nut. This should give you some additional 'purchase' to adjust the neck. Be sure to lubricate the threads. Good luck.

My old Spector had a removable truss rod...If you removed the strings and loosened the rod all the way, you could actually slide the truss rod out.

That being said I'd send it to the Spector shop and have it repaired by them first hand.

I did the same thing for my '86 NS-2 (Jimmy Eppard swapped out the broken truss rod for me & installed a new 2-way rod). Best decision I could have made.

Here's of picture of 'Jepp' caressing my bass!
