Spector with one high fret

Hey all, I know this topic has been touched on many times, but I've got a more specific question...
I have a Spector Rebop 5 and have been getting buzz on the B string, (especially when trying to do some double-thumb slapping like Alain). I have narrowed the problem down to being mainly related to the 4th fret, which I've measured to be a fraction higher than all others, under the B string. The bass is fairly new (though possibly no longer under warranty) and I want a quick fix. I don't want to have to shell out the money for a fret levelling/dressing, so is there any way I can simply file/sand the problem fret down, or tap it in a bit with a hammer? (I can see a bit of a gap between the bottom of the fret crown and the fretboard)

I'll rephrase the question...
Can a single high fret be tapped in with a hammer if you can see a gap under it, and its a fairly new bass? (ie, the fret hasn't died, it just never went in properly)

Can a fret be filed on its own and polished up, or is an entire fret levelling/dressing required?

Yes. I have done it to many basses. Runing some super glue before tapping in should help too if the slot is too wide for the fret.

I have done that too, as long as you don't go lower than the other 2 frets you should be fine. I have done mine on trial and error which may not be the best way to do it....
