I need replacement tuning machines for my schecter DV-4 and I want the sperzel locking tuners, but I have no idea how they work, how I install them, or if they fit. Thoughts? Experiences?

First, the sperzel's don't use the small "set screws" on the back, instead they have a single protruded post. It will require a small hole. The locking mechanism tightens/loosens from the back "knob". Inside, there is a post that lowers/raises and pinches the string in place. They can be fit, but they are not a "direct" fit.

Quick FYI, Sperzel bass tuners and guitar tuners share the same chassis , with just a 12:1 ratio.

Sorry to derail but does anybody know the diameter of the locking pin on Sperzels?

The knob fell off one of my Sperzels in my gig bag and, despite a thorough search through all the folds and crinkles of the bag, the locking pin has gone missing.

I suppose I could email Sperzel for a replacement, or simply dismantle a neighbouring tuner to measure it when I get home. But if anyone knows off the top of their head I could pick up a piece of stainless rod on my way home from work and get the job done.

I too lost one of my locking pins and contacted Sperzel yesterday but have not heard back as of yet. Did you have any luck fabricating a pin? Did you come across any further information.

I just received my replacement locking pin from Sprezel today. :-) I just sent them an email asking where I could buy a replacement. I received a response asking for my shipping address and shortly thereafter it arrived...free of charge! That's what I call great customer service!

Just send them an email w/your address. I lost mine, and sent them one and before I knew it, I had a replacement for free!
