Squier Bridge + Baritone Strings?

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm eying a squier bronco with the intentions of making a piccolo bass, but the idea of needing to order a $22.00 dollar set of piccolo strings with a wound g string every once in a while is a turn off. I'd much rather get $7.00 baritone guitar strings and use the B, E, A, and D strings from them.
I noticed that the base of the bass strings I use ((the part that holds the string in the bridge, don't know what they are called)) are larger than the base of the strings my regular guitar has on it. Soo, do you guys think that the bronco bridge would accommodate baritone strings? Or would the strings just slide right through?

PS: It was a tough call whether to put this in hardware, strings, or basses, as this question kinda involves all three. Please don't crucify me if you feel I chose incorrectly : (

I just compared a set of LaBella baritone strings on a stock Bronco bridge. The ball ends, the part of the string that is retained by the bridge, will be held by the Bronco bridge. If I were to use them I might use small washers to insure that they would not pull through under tension. The strings are medium gauge: E,A,D,G,B,E -.080,.056,.044,.030,.019,.015. That's just one comparison; other strings may vary.

Thanks, hopefully the washers aren't necessary, but it isn't much of a issue considering those strings are half the price of labella piccolo strings <.<
