I just bought my first Fender, it's an '05 Squier Jazz. It was used, obviously, and has almost no blemishes, but I saw these two screw holes (and yes, that's what they are, I know they just look like white dots, but my camera's stupid ), around the bridge, and I figured it was the bridge cover. I thought to myself "I don't think I've ever seen a Squier with a bridge cover," and I couldn't find a picture of a Squier with one. Would a Fender Jazz bridge cover fit over it? I mean, it seems like that's what these holes are for, what else could their intended use have been? |

If the measurements are the same, the cover may fit. If they are not, it won't. In the first case you still lack certainty, but have improved your odds. |

The holes are exactly 4 inches apart; the J cover's dimensions are 5.5 x 1 x 5 inches, and the P cover's dimensions are 4.8 x 0.8 x 2.8 inches. I wonder what these holes were for, then... Maybe a custom made cover? |

Question: when you change string(s), does the bridge cover have to come off?
If so, have you ever needed to change a string during a gig? |

If that's just out there for anyone... just take off the first clause in regards to the second answer, and I think my answer's the same. |

Yes, you do need to take off the bridge to change strings.

The chrome covers also aggravate the problem video cameras have with the glare from reflected stage lighting.

Well, I love the look of the J cover; the P cover'd still look nice, but do you think if I got the J cover, how hard would it be to put perfect screw holes in the right spot? |

It's really just a matter of measuring carefully, just makesure you follow the old carpenter's adage, "measure twice, cut (in this case drill) once." I am sure you could probably find somewhere on the 'net that has instructions on the best way to do it.
