Squier Vintage Modified Jazz fretless reccommendations?

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm getting a Squier VMJ soon. I play reggae/ska/dub type stuff, some slow paced, and some fast, but all straight up groovin'

I was wondering if any VMJ owners or Squier SX owners (basically any bass similar to the VMJ) have modified their basses with good results. For example, if you got the BadAss II bridge, what were the results? How did it change the sound or playability. I'm not huge on mods, but down the line, I may want to invest in one or two. What about pickups? I think the pickups on the VMJ are "vintage." Has anyone modified their pups with good results?

I would first change the strings and leave the rest stock. These are very good basses IMO.

I have a spare BadAss that I thought about putting on my fretless Squier but I decided against it. I like this bass just the way it is. Aside from adding a bit of sustain, you're really not gaining anything.

Other than the strings, the weak links on the VMJs are the pots and jack - and they can be upgraded fairly cheaply... The stock bridge and pups are just fine...
