Squier Vintage Modified Pickup Cover

Sign in to disble this ad
I am trying to install the neck pickup cover on my VM. However, when placed over the neck pickup, there is very little to now clearance from the string.

The part I have is an official Fender.

I took it to the professional who fixed my guitars action and he checked and listed a few options such as shim the neck, dont put one on, or find a different one with more clearance.

What should I do here? I understand these are supposed to have somewhat of an arc but mine does seem on the flat side. Can anyone take a picture of theres off of the guitar so I can compare?

Is it a VM Jazz or a VM Precision???? I don't believe they have the same neck pup covers.

Perhaps someone can scan me their pickguard as well to see the holes?

Its a jazz bass.

Where I was going with asking which it is, is that if you got a Precision pup cover, they are flatter than a Jazz. That might be your problem.

If you know you have a Jazz cover....."never mind".....

When I got mine, it was slightly squashed and the holes that were in the PG I bought - a '62 13-hole Tort, proved to me that I had to re-arch the cover to make it fit.

If you just put it on without measuring the holes, you'll get it too low to the p'up and it will hit the strings.

The correct dimension between the screws on center is: 5.5 inches

Wait - that's wrong! I have to edit that --- 4.557" is the correct size.

Any chance you can get a scan of your pickguard and I can print for a template?

To do that I'd have to take the whole thing off my bass - the tug bar, the 13 screws and the neck p'up cover too.

I usually take things apart like that only every other month or so to wax under there, and I just did that on Tuesday.

Yeah - I'm a little possessed with waxing things.

Let me see if I can find the template for you anyway - I might have one in my files somewhere.

Wait a minute - I got the wrong dimension there and it's really (sorry) 4.557"

BTW: how are you gonna install the screw closest to the control panel? Under my VM-Jazz is a void.

I have a trick if you need to know and it does NOT employ a longer screw
