| I always change out pots and tone caps in my basses. I use USA made 250K CTS vintage style tone pots and Vitamin Q PIO .047uF tone cap. I also almost imediately sheild and reground everything and change out the strings to Circle K strings. If you think changing out the bridge won't alter your tone, think again. A good heavy brass bridge will deffinately give you more sustain and punch than a bent peice of metal. For tuners I always use Hipshot. Mostly to save weight.
IMHO, the most economical way (assuming your instrument is set up correctly) is to change out the strings, pots, tone cap, jack and wiring. Then, if you can afford it, change out the bridge to a Hipshot "A" or "B" brass bridge. You won't be dissapointed.
