Squire Standard question

Sign in to disble this ad
i got this bass at a really good price, im really not trying to make it sound like a $2,000 bass...but it does not play bad at all and i would like for it to sound better.
the tone is pretty decent on the eadg but the volume drops alot when you play the B string, someone told me that they had that same bass and that it comes standard with 4 string pups in it....is that true?
what i was going to do is drop a cool pup off in it....but is there anything else i can do?
oh and i have already tried to raise the pup on the B side....did not help at all.
thanks in advance

My buddy has that same bass, and the same problem. It's a 4 string pickup. I don't know why Fender decided to do that, but you'll either need to replace the pickups or find a bridge with a smaller string spacing to get the B over the pickup better.

I had one as well and it is true about the 4 pole pups.A strange thing to do,especially given the string spacing on this bass.I put Seymour Duncan SJB5s on mine as they are Blade type pups and as such,do not have individual pole pieces but a continuous blade magnet which covers all 5 strings.Worked for me.

did you try raising the pickup on the side of that string? If that doesn't solve then yeah maybe spend some money on a new pickup.
