Squire VM Neck or SX Neck

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm in the process of getting parts together for my next build and am having a hard time finding the right neck that wont break the bank.

I want a maple fret board with white mother of pearl inlays.
The head stock is going to be cut to a Tele style.

The only options I have found are to buy a bass from Rondo with the neck I want and part the body out. I can cut the head stock close to a tele style but not exact.

Or buy a Squire VM with the neck and cut the head stock to a tele style and part the body out. (The price will be double the SX option)

My third option is to use my mighty mite neck and forget the mother of pearl inlays.

So my main question How are the SX necks compaired to the Squire necks?

Id say squire necks are better with better wood, construction, fretwork and better qaulity frets. SX frets are soft in my opinion from several statements made by good luthiers and repair peeps whove done work on them

One other thing to consider: The neck radius on a Squier is the same as a Fender, 9.5", while an SX is 15", much flatter (which I personally kinda like).

Thanks!

I think I am going to go with using a MightyMite neck and get some inlay stickers and lacquer over them.

I like how this looks and they are stickers.
