SR 505 Fret Buzz and intonation

Sign in to disble this ad
Greetings from South Africa,

Further to good advices on these forums, I recently purchased an Ibanez SR505.

I restrung to EADGC, with .095, .075, .060, .040 and .032.

Now, el problemo:

Hectic fret buzz (the sound is actually a buzzed-out version of the next fret) when playing the 17th fret on the C string, the 13th fret of the D string and 12th fret on the A string. I've adjusted the action slightly (I prefer a low 2.5mm to 2mm action and play fast fingerstyle and chords) but this makes no difference. The other frets are fine.

Also, what would be the best way to adjust intonation?

I would appreciate any advice/guidance.

Check your relief. When I restrung my bass EADGC, I had to adjust the truss rod, and that was with a 0.032-.105 set.

Thanks people,

I'll get the beast to a tech and let you know. I was just a bit concerned that the neck might have been "iffy" (I have a 26 year old made in Japan Ibanez Blazer and haven't encountered such a problem with it).

This looks like an old thread, but did you have any intonation problems with the bass after a setup? I've heard the intonation on the sr506 is questionable, so I was wondering if the same problem was present on the sr505 model. I ask because I would like to acquire a sr505 and string it EADGC.

if youve never had that problem before it just sounds like a neck adjustment and maybe the saddles too!
