SRX500 neck woes

Sign in to disble this ad
I've had this bass since end of May last year, and as much as I love it, its becoming a major PITA!!

I've had to bring it in 3 times for neck adjustments due to buzzing. The last adjustment I did was just around Christmas when I changed to Rotosound LD66 strings. Everything was great.. in the past few days I've developed wicked buzzing on the E string 1st fret, and on the G string 5th fret.

I thought I read maybe on here numerous complaints about the neck on this bass... The temperature and humidity in the room in my house where I play is pretty consistent, outside temps/humidity though are a different story as we had 3 weeks of -30C and in the past 2 weeks its been hovering just around -5C or so...

I shouldn't need new strings already??

Thanks

I think the necks on those basses are way too flexible. Too thin, too long.

Comfort always comes at a price.

When changing string gauges or brands a setup is usually called for. Can't count that as a negative. This is the time of the year when necks start moving. Your problem is probably environmental. Don't count it as a black mark against that seductive neck. It's the price we pay to play. Take it to a pro and have him tweak it.

I have an SRX 300. Same neck. I don't have any severe problems. The air inside is dry as dust right now and has been since the heat came on when the weather got really cold in January. I had to adjust the truss rod once when it dried out, and expect to make another adjustment when the warm weather begins. I've had the bass a couple years now.

It's the same thing every year. I do the same on my Fender, Ibanez Artcore, Danelectro and Godin. I don't change type or guage of strings though. That's constant.
