staining/dying an open pore bass

Hey there, I've got a 2006 warwick corvette fiver with the natural oil finish that they do. It has a bubinga body, ovangkol neck, wenge fretboard. I was wondering if it would be possible for an amateur like me to change the color of the bass, either by staining or dying the wood. I have been re waxing as needed ever since I got it so there aren't any cracks or splits. How would I go about doing this and what kinds of colors would work well with this kind of wood? Thanks guys.
