Question Static Noise w/out Manual Pressure on Jack

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a KSD Proto J 70's that produces an electronic static noise when I do not manually apply pressure to the cord in such a manner so that the pointed-end of the cord is being pushed into the jack. (If this is unclear, please let me know and I will find a way to illustrate it.)

I'm inexperienced with electronics, and I do not know what I should be looking for. Any advice on what to look for that could be causing this noise will be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like a grounding issue, or a worn input jack. Have you tried the cable in a different bass, or a different cable in the bass? . I have to tell you, I am no pro at electronics.

It could be a worn-out/faulty jack, or cord, or something simple like a dirty jack (which happens quite often)..

Try cleaning the inside of the jack with denatured alcohol or something. I usually put a few drops on a pipe cleaner and work it around in there.. Clean the cord's male jack as well..
I caution against trying to use a q-tip to clean out the jack as most times the cotton fibers will hang on something in there and get caught..

Good luck..

Mag...
