Stealth Bongo Paint Touchup

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello guys,

I've been looking at stealth bongos for a while now. Actually I've been looking for ages but now I can afford. Some of the ones in my price range are a bit beaten up. Usually I wouldn't mind but I think it really ruins the stealth look.

Are they hard to retouch? Does the stealth paint mean it needs any special care? Can an ordinary repair place do it for me?

Just wondering, and thanks in advance.

Scars are not cool. They just show a certain carelessness of the owner with a disregard for the integrity of the instrument.

OK, I'm pushing the point. Really it's a matter of personal taste. For me scars are not cool.

It's probably possible to do a touch-up, but the big problem is that you will make some dings sooner or later.

Often (but not always) "touch-ups" on a quality paint job require the same level of care as a full re-paint. The higher the quality, often the higher the requirement for a decent looking touch-up.
A Bongo is not a mid-price point Bass. It is a truly professional level instrument and it's elements are generally of a professional high caliber. Being very realistic, you may not be able to "touch-up" a professional level paint job without substantial skill, micro airbrush, the SAME paint, & knowledge of blending new paint-points. This is generally an expensive endeavor IF you can even find someone who knows all the idiosyncrasies.

IMO, you should weigh the need for such a thing vs the money, skill-level, & returns such a thing would require. I have painted a few bodies and seen a great many painted professionally. I have also seen a few "touched-up". The best of the touch-ups used a degree of creativity to alter the problem; so that the hiding of the problem demanded much more skill than simply covering it. This made costs rise.
Please be realistic.
1.) same paint sourcing
2.) quality equipment
3.) creative skill & experience
= high cost.
Compare this to a poorly (or even moderately) done job that calls more attention to the issue than originally perceived. Is the problem really that sever?
It's a damn good instrument. It's worth being treated well & w/ as much care as possible. But the cost involved in touching-up a problem may not be worth the sum when all is said and done. OR it may be an open door to better looking somewhat "custom" Bass painting. The decisions are several & the results depend on several factors: weigh all factors before committing to it.

I had thought about just leaving the marks there, and I know I'll eventually put my own on anyways. It just bothers me that's all. Thanks for the replies guys.

Has anyone ever touched up a stealth bass? Is there anything special about the paint?
