Steinberger Synapse Willis Ramp

Sign in to disble this ad
Here's a quick model that I made of a Willis style finger ramp for my Synapse 5 Bass. The bottom curvature should match the curvature of the front face of the Synapse. I pulled a measurement from the cross section of the body where the pickup is installed - it was about 60" dia.

Im thinking of having the shop at work do an output of this so I can see how it fits. It would be an ABS plastic output, so that could be really nice. One version has holes if I want to commit, the other is flat and can be stuck on with double stick.

Hopefully the top curve matches the string arc, but the final output could be sanded to fit. Or shimmed up to sit as close to the strings as desired. Or I could always remodel it and print it again.

Thanks for looking. I'll update if I manage to get some outputs made!

Advice? Ideas? Comments?

Oh - and I forgot to mention the channel on the side! That is meant to duplicate the feeling of a string when you rest your thumb there. Could be nice!

Only one edge has the channel - the ramp could be flipped so you could orient the channel side or the flat side to be your thumb rest.

The width is 3.25" which is slightly smaller than the stock EMG pickup and slightly wider than the neck. The distance between the top edge of the ramp and the low B should be very similar to the string spacing to give a nice natural feeling when moving the thumb from the ramp to the B.
