Steinberger tuning troubles

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi all,
I recently my awesome Steinberger Spirit in the mail. It's a lot of fun to play and to show off, but I'm having some trouble with the tuning. The knobs are too tight to turn with bare hands, so I've been using a screwdriver to tune it (lol, ridiculous, I know). I'm wondering if anybody else has had this problem - maybe they tighten them up for shipping purposes?

Thanks for any help!

Might want to try removing the string and sprinkling some graphite powder on the threads while moving the saddle to & fro with the tuner knob. The knob itself can cause a bit of friction where it butts up against the tuner body. There should be a thin washer / spacer of some sort between the two.

I've had a few Spirits over the years and every one of them benefited from pulling the tuner screw / string claw and lubing them up. I always used a small amount of moly grease.

Even my Newburgh needed to be lubed.
