Stew-Mac tuners vs Grover or Wilkinson ?

Sign in to disble this ad
Are these StewMac tuners good for the price?
Does anyone know who makes these? or how they compare to Wilkinson or Grover vintage tuners?
I need to buy a couple of sets of tuners and I am trying to stay in the $40 to $50 range.

Can't speak for the rest but I just installed Wilkinsons on my Geddy and they're great. Lighter than the stock tuners, too.

The Wilkinson's are well made, I have a pair. Really big mounting plates. They aren't as thick as I was hoping but they are still nice and the light weight is a plus. Stew Mac rebrands a lot of stuff. It might be worth emailing them and asking who their manufacturer is on the tuners.

The stew macs do look nice for the price. The size is a bit weird, large at 23/32" (18.3 mm) vs. 11/16" (17.4mm) standard vintage tuner holes.

Warmoth has Schaller for $60. Those are totally high-quality parts. You could probably find them cheaper of you shop around. I'd do them or the Grover. I trust both brands a lot.

Thanks for the info, maybe I should just spring for the Schallers at $60... I want to save money but I also want good tuners.

They are for this scroll bass project in the LC forum.
