Sting Ray 5 problem neck

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi, I'm new here so forgive me if this has been covered. I have an Ernie Ball Sting Ray 5-string. The neck is all maple and un-finished. It seems it just can not hold up the tension of 5 strings. If the humidity/temp change even slightly the neck changes, so I am constantly tweeking the truss rod to bring it in. I'm talking large movements, I'm not that picky, but the action moves by a lot. Up to a 1/4 inch if left long enough.

Anyone had this problem or can offer an easy-ish solution without replacing the whole neck? My guess is that the single piece of wood is just not strong enough. My other 5 string holds perfectly no matter what you do to it.

Your thoughts are appreciated

Thanks

There is nothing wrong with the bass. The unfinished necks on the Music man basses are more sensitive to temperature changes than basses with finished necks. That's just the way it is.Luckily, tweaking the neck on a MM bass is really simple and takes all of 10 seconds. You just have to check them more often. Not a big issue.
