Stingray 5 neck problem

Sign in to disble this ad
Stingray 5 problem.
The joint between the body and the neck is not similar at both sides. One side of the neck (side of the G string) it`s more carved than the other so the neck it`s not parallel to the body.
The luthier fixed it by putting a tiny piece of wood at the joint.

It seems that before messing things by putting a hartke xl 1x15 cab on top of the hardcase, this problem did not exist-the luthier did not noticed it. However, this episode was 1.5 years ago. It was for a 5 hours ride, and the hardcase seems to be ok.
I really don`t know, I am very depressed, the bass will never be the same.
Or
It`s a factory problem??
Is this a common thing?????

Thanks, I ve saved for years to buy that bass...

You put a 60-70 lb bass cab on top of a bass case for a 5 hour drive?

If your repairman was able to fix anything wrong with your bass with a small shim, consider yourself lucky. It doesn't sound like there is anything really wrong with your bass. Quite a few instruments ship with a shim installed at the factory. It's really not a big deal.

Does it sound or play different? I've put shims in plenty of my basses never got depressed over it though. If its just aesthetic i don't see any reason to worry too much.

But why in a so expensive instrument, the wood carved???
In a luthier instrument it would be different?

It sounds and play better now, with that problem it was unconfortable. Moreover, I was learning and I didn`t knew how I would like my bass to be set. The action is very low, it is very confortable to play. Pro setting by my luthier. It is not aesthetic, the shims is at the joint between the body and the neck. You can`t see it.
But the only thing that I don`t like, is I would love to have gotten one of the good ones.

Could it be that the wood didn`t settle well?

If it sounds good and plays well, I wouldn't worry about it at all.

I strongly doubt it is a factory problem. Musicman basses are built with very tight quality control.

Did you buy the bass new? Is it possible that a prior owner changed something?

I`ve bought it new 2 years ago. My friend bought it in Miami guitar center.

Or it could be no problem and to set with low action, straight neck, mass market basses made in factories, need to be adjusted by a good luthier. The same thing happened to my tobias growler, he had to raise the nut to set the bass perfect (what he considers as).
Now he had to add shims to the neck.
This could be the same?
