Stingray Maple Neck/Board/What can be used to dress It?

Just bought a Stingray 5HS with a maple neck, and board. First one I have ever owned. The neck, and board appear to be pretty raw wood. What can be used to preserve/coat the neck to keep it nice?

There are several options. It all depends on what you are comfortable doing. You can use simple clear lacquer, polyurethane, even epoxy. the simplest method would be clear lacquer, Stew-Mac sells their lacquer in rattle can applications, or, you might be able to go the Home Depot route. I would think Stew-Mac would be a little better, but, there are some on here who would try the Home Depot route. I am sure that those with more experience will chime in later. Good luck, whatever you do!

Thanks,I can do that if need be,since I have been in the body, and paint business all my life. I am looking for more of a wax or sealant. Might try some min wax just to smooth the back of the neck out.

Go to the Ernie Ball/MusicMan WEB Site - FAQ section - the proper care is described in detail. The recommended approach is to use Casey Tru-Oil Gunstock Finish followed by Casey Gun Stock wax.

The easiest way to finish wood for a non-professional is tung oil. Add a little bit of mineral spirits for a higher gloss and stronger finish.

You put lemon oil on Maple?
Didn't it give you a nasty color?

Not one bit! Did a real nice job. The Ernie Ball website said it was ok.
