| It may need a setup, it may not. You should familiarize yourself with changing the action, neck relief, intonation, pickup height and other things anyhow. That way in case it does need a new setup, you'll know what to do.
Try the new strings, see what needs to be changed, do it. I put some super light strings on my Sterling once and tuned it ADGC, didn't have to change anything. Even the nut worked fine, oddly enough. There have also been times where I simply changed string brands and had to adjust everything. You won't really know until the new strings are on the bass.
