Stingray4 - bass knob problem

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi

WOnder if anyone can assist? The bass pot on my 3 band 4 string stingray (2001) is on the way out. It is not smooth, and kind of makes a metalic noise when turned. Although it still works.

I think it needs replacing, but my tech was not sure where to get it and indeed what? I obviously want the correct part for the bass.

Are these parts easily available? Where can I source one? IO assume that I don't need to replace teh whole preamp?

Thanks

Chris

The pot might be dirty or broken and possibly need a replacement. You should contact musicman.

I'm sorry, but if your tech doesn't know what is needed and where to get it, I think you need a new tech.

The obvious place to look for a part for a bass is with the manufacturer. If the manufacturer won't sell you the part, they could at least tell you the right value for the pot. Failing that, you can read the value of the pot (it's usually stamped on the case). And even if it's not labelled, a quick check with a multimeter will tell you the pot value required. There are MANY suppliers of the parts around the world - so acquisition is not a problem.

This is not rocket science and is well within what you should expect of a luthier or "tech".
