Storing basses : how far from an electric baseboard heating unit?
 

To avoid wood from suffering of the heat source (drying out), how far should I keep my basses from electric heating units?

I would try to keep it as far away as possible. Better safe than sorry.

I like to store them in the same spot that I would be most comfortable. Depends on the space and the location of the heater. If it's really drafty and moist, it might make more sense to have them closer to the heater, etc...

So, say, if it's close (3 or 4 feet away) from the heater but under the ventilation doc (providing air from outside), I guess I'd be clear.

+1. If you're not comfortable there, don't keep your bass there.

I always put my bass in it's gigbag and put in a closet :p

Axiom: Never store an instrument in any place you would not leave a child or small dog.

What you should really try to avoid is frequent swings in temperature and humidity. So avoid setting the bass where hot air may blow directly on it or radiant heat may reach it or overly damp or overly dry air may come in contact with it.

A hard case (or to a lesser degree a gig bag) is a good container for your bass if it's not frequently used. It keeps dust and dirt from settling on it, keeps dings and chips to a minimum and slows down temperature fluctuations.

If I wanted the bass in a stand and not a case I'd put it somewhere in the room where there is not hot or cold air blowing on it, no sun directly hitting it and no chance of moisture getting on it (i.e. away from a window and away from a space heater).

Or you can just give it to me and I'll take care of it for you.:)
