Storing necks: truss rod quesion

I've swapped out the neck on my '86 P bass. Should I reduce truss rod tension on the original neck before storing it?

YES! If there aren't strings pulling against it, you'll most definately want to loosen the truss rod. You'll want it pretty much straight for storage purposes. Otherwise, the neck will backbow and over time might warp and stay backbowed even after reapplying string tension, or worse yet, start to crack from being at extreme curvature.
